Elected Director - STLE Board of Directors Term & Timeframe: 

  •  1 Term - 3 Years (additional term possible upon completion of first and by re-election).
  • Begins May 2027 at STLE's Annual Meeting.

Requirements: 

  • Must be a current STLE member in good standing for 4 consecutive years prior to submission 
  • Must be able to demonstrate active volunteer engagement for 2 or more years within STLE (could be within a committee or Local Section)

Qualified candidates must demonstrate the following: 

  • Leadership ability.
  • Critical and strategic thinking.
  • Commitment and stewardship to the industry.
  • Commitment to STLE as an organization and its future.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Determine and advance STLE’s mission and purposes.
  • Assist officers in oversight of the management and direction of the society, including performing tasks as assigned.
  • Support the Executive Director and assess performance of STLE (i.e. budget, goal achievements, etc.)
  • Conduct organizational planning, including reviewing and understanding STLE’s Strategic Plan.
  • Ensure adequate resources for STLE to meet its mission and goals (funds, time, volunteers, staff, etc.)
  • Maintain resource and financial oversight of the society.
  • Determine, monitor, and enhance STLE programs and services.
  • Promote and represent STLE in a positive and supportive manner at all times.
  • Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability.
  • Serve as a resource to STLE Headquarters staff, committees, and other Board members.

General Duties: 

  • Make attendance at all meetings of the STLE Board of Directors a high priority.
  • Be prepared to discuss the business addressed at scheduled meetings, having read the agenda and all background material relevant to the agenda topics and participate in active discussions.
  • Comply with all STLE policies and procedures within STLE’s Governance framework.
  • Be guided by the STLE mission and goals in all policy decisions and provide input and vote on Board decisions.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of privileged and/or sensitive STLE information.
  • Display courteous and respectful conduct in all board meetings.
  • Respect both the privacy and the opinions of peers who serve and leave personal prejudices out of all meeting discussions.
  • Support in a positive manner all actions taken, even when in a minority position on such actions.
  • Be willing to serve on a subcommittee of the Board of Directors (Finance, Governance or Section Affairs), as well as additional working groups during your tenure on the Board.

Commitment/Expectations: 

  • In person attendance at all Board activities is a requirement of this position. These include 4 in-person meeting a year: one in the fall (September/October), one in the winter (January/Feb) and 2 during STLE Annual Meeting (May)- regular meetings are one to two days in length (requires travel) Expectation to stay in the room blocks provided by STLE.
  • Participation in any additional conference calls and/or in-person meetings throughout the year, based on need or request.
  • STLE does not reimburse Board members for travel and lodging expenses related to meeting attendance, so candidate must either have company support or be willing to pay their own expenses as tied to Board of Director commitments.
  • Agree to adhere to STLE’s policy and expectations, including STLE’s Conflict of Interest policy, Anti-trust policy, and Bylaws and Constitution. In turn with your agreement and commitment to serve as a volunteer leader, STLE provides Directors and Officers (D&O) liability insurance.
